Elections
Teton County Clerk’s Department manages all Elections for the City of Driggs. The City Clerk manages the Declaration of Candidacy and all notifications for such elections. You can find information about City elections here, when applicable.Â
To register to vote or obtain absentee ballots, please contact the Teton County Clerk’s Office .
You can register to vote, request an absentee ballot, find polling locations, and view sample ballots at VoteIdaho.gov .
Mayor August Christensen and Driggs City Council encourage all registered voters to exercise their right to vote in local elections.

The Candidacy Filing Window opens on August 18, 2025 and closes on August 29, 2025 at 5:00pm.

Petition signatures must be verified by the county clerk before the petition is submitted to the city clerk. The county clerk will attach a certificate to the petition indicating the number of signatures that are of qualified city electors—Idaho Code 50-410.

What are the qualifications under Idaho law for a mayor or councilor?
The person must meet the following requirements:
1. At least 18 years of age,
2. A U.S. citizen,
3. The candidate's primary residence must be within the city,
4. The address of the candidate’s voter registration must match the residence address provided on the candidate’s declaration, and
5. A registered voter within the city at the time the declaration is filed (Idaho Code 50- 402; 50-407; 50-601; 50-702). People living in the area of impact cannot run for office or vote in the city election.
How do candidates for mayor or council get their name on the ballot?
To get their name on the ballot, a candidate must submit a Declaration of Candidacy specifying the office for which they are running and affirming they meet the legal qualifications to run as of the date their Declaration of Candidacy is submitted to the city clerk (Idaho Code 50-406; 50-407). The Declaration of Candidacy must be accompanied by one of the following:
- A Petition of Candidacy signed by at least five qualified city electors with an attached certification from the county clerk indicating the number of signatures that are of qualified city electors,
OR
- A nonrefundable filing fee of $40. The timeframe for candidates to submit Declarations of Candidacy to the city clerk starts at 8:00 a.m. on the eleventh Monday before Election Day and ends at 5:00 p.m. on the ninth Friday before Election Day (Idaho Code 50-410).
Is there a deadline for candidates to withdraw from the election?
Nominated candidates (those listed on the ballot) have up to 46 days before Election Day to withdraw their candidacy by filing a notarized statement of withdrawal with the city clerk (Idaho Code 34-1405A).
Declared write-in candidates may withdraw at any time up to the election by filing a notarized statement of withdrawal with the city clerk.
Are candidates for mayor or council required to report their campaign contributions and expenditures? Are campaign contributions limited to a specific dollar amount?
Idaho's Sunshine Law, which requires reporting of campaign contributions and expenditures by candidates for state and local office applies to all candidates for mayor and council who raise or spend $500 or more in an election cycle. The contribution limit for city candidates is $1,000 per contributor (Idaho Code Title 67, Chapter 66).

What constitutes a person’s primary residence for the purposes of running for office and voting?
A person must have their primary residence within the city for at least 30 days prior to the election (and within the district if the elections are by district). If the candidate owns more than one property, the property where the person declares their homeowners exemption for taxes will be the primary address. If elected, the candidate must continue to reside within the city and district if required during the duration of their term.
